When you are dancing cheek to cheek and the sweat is running down your spine; when you know exactly how to best lead or follow your dance partner, when your bodies are so united that they are part of the same cluster of Universe… hearts racing, eyes closed and heavy breathing are sure signs that you are a bit more than simply alive, you are enjoying the moment to its full extent!

Byron Latin Fiesta – Event Review

The Byron Latin Festival was held on the 31st October – 2nd November 08.

If you could ever envisage a holiday combined with hot weather, great friends and of course a lot of Latin dancing then you definitely need to check out this review! Just imagine the somewhat typically stunning and pictorial township of Byron Bay. A community surrounded with sandy beaches, an unproblematic atmosphere and attitude that is adopted not only by locals but also travellers that bring with them the flowing culture of Latin workshops and never to be missed Latin parties. Bachata, straight from the Dominican Republic

My trip to the Dominican Republic was not well timed with the ravages of Cyclone Hanna and Ike furiously beating at the shores of DR and it’s Caribbean neighbours. But the weather was no hindrance to the soul and determination of the people and so we danced! I took the opportunity to shake my booty and move with the true blooded Dominicans and see what it’s like to be led by those who have been immersed in the rhythms of Bachata and Salsa from birth. It is amazing to see over the last few years just how fast Bachata has evolved to become the preferred style it is today in Australia. Following the same world wide pattern, Bachata is the most popular Latin dance style in Australia, second only to Salsa. In the four years since Bachata had been introduced, it never occurred to anyone that the future held the running of the 1st Bachata championship, and how it would attract and involve so many contestants, spectators and prominent dancers.

come learn some bachata moderna steps so you can use them during the Christmas break.

(If you haven’t dance bachata moderna before, don’t panic, we’ll teach the technique and fundamentals as well)

Bachata Moderna – Intermediate
2:30pm for 1hour 15 mins

By now you have probably seen people dancing bachata moderna. This workshop will quickly review the fundamentals and will teach you new turn patterns that incorporate all these fundamentals. These moves will enable you to move more freely across the dance floor and ladies, be ready to follow the unexpected leads as Bachata is no longer about moving from one side to the other!

Bachata Moderna – Advanced
4:00pm for 1 hour 15 min

Are you getting confident with the Bachata Moderna fundamentals? Do you know what “Cross on1, cross on2, cross on3 and cross over” means? Then you are ready for the advanced moderna workshop. We will be adding quick hand leads and speedy direction changes into turn patters without losing the sensuality that bachata is all about. These moves are going to make your bachata stand out from the rest of the people on the dance floor so get ready to be popular!!!!

$30 for 1 workshop
$50 for both
