Sydney Bachata Festival 09 – Event Review
May 26, 2009 by Juan Ruiz · Leave a Comment
Combine the rhythm that is Bachata with, 24 workshops, 19 national and international instructors, 90+ performers, 600 (per night) party go-ers, a tonne of fun, buckets of sweat, lots of excitement, hundreds of “Bachata Me” t-shirts and of course, 4 boys from Miami with amazing voices and you have the perfect recipe for a successful 2009 Sydney International Bachata Festival.
With this event debuting in 2008, the Bachata community have spent 364 days eagerly awaiting to see what the Bachata Festival Team had install for them this year, and i think it is safe to say that this year’s event exceeded all expectations and left wanting more once the event was over because of its success. A few more basics…
May 24, 2009 by Juan Ruiz · Leave a Comment
Right hand turn, left hand turn, step, hands up, then down, turn again, double turns, front to back then back to front, front to front, turn, back to back, syncopated step, hesitation, turn, turn, turn… don’t you get tired even reading it? Imagine the girl dancing it!
As in all things in life, the middle path is the path to illumination: yes we love different steps, girls admire a guy that knows how to lead and has the perfect leading strength, that thinks quickly and takes you for a ride. But it is so good when he throws a couple of basics in his dancing and that is valid for any style. The guy has to remember that he doesn’t turn half as much as the girl so if he leads her for a whole music of turns she is bound to be tired of it, or dizzy, or sick. Read more
What Bachata means to you?

The following is a collection of quotes from various students, instructors and other Bachateros. Bachata is not just the music or the dance; it is a culture in itself.
We asked our subscribers “What do you love about Bachata?” Here are some of the answers. Enjoy!
Diana S.
Bachata is a very sensual and sexy dance. What I love about Bachata is you can just let your body move freely and allow your body and soul drowns with the music and rhythm. With this dance you can show your passion and emotion and be transported to a whole new world…
For me this is what Bachata is all about… Read more

The Band 4EVER (from Orlando, USA) on their first Australia tour. 4Ever was the first Bachata band to come to Australia. Australian fans loved them for their charismatic personalities and very energetic performances.
4Ever did a total of 4 concerts on ther 12 days visit to Australia. 3 in Sydney and 1 in Adelaide. They were the main act (the closing act) for the Sydney International Bachata Festival.
Will 4Ever come back to Australia? Definitely! We are looking forward for more of their songs and music.

DouDoule Latin Dance Camp Event review 09
May 19, 2009 by Juan Ruiz · 3 Comments
Remember back when you were in primary school and you went on school camp. You and your best buddies would share a cabin together, the whole school would meet for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the mess hall, there were activities planned all day to keep you active, there would be party at night where you could all let loose and dance the night away and at the end of the night there would be trays of Arnott’s biscuits and hot chocolate to send you off to bed with – well, this is what the DouDoule Latin Dance Camp was like – only there were no teachers to tell you off for sneaking around late at night.
The DouDoule Latin Dance Camp, was the perfect combination of holidaying, dancing and partying. The beautiful city of the Gold Coast, Queensland was the host of the DouDuoule Camp. The event was held during the 8th-10th of May. This was the 2nd year of the event, and we were told by the organizer that the event doubled up in size from last year’s event. We wonder how big is going to be this event in 2010 then? Read more
